Sky Signature is still relevant — but mainly to Sky Q customers

Sky Signature has not simply disappeared. It remains an important package name for many existing Sky Q customers, even though Sky's public new-customer advertising now concentrates on Essential and Ultimate TV delivered through Sky Stream and Sky Glass.

Signature is best understood as the core entertainment element of a Sky Q subscription. It can provide access to Sky Atlantic and a broader group of entertainment channels, with premium services such as Sports, Cinema, TNT Sports, HD, Ultra HD and Multiscreen potentially appearing separately on the bill.

Its value cannot be judged from the package name alone. Existing customers can have different discounts, add-ons and contract dates, so the important question is not simply “What is Sky Signature?” It is “What does my version of Sky Signature include, and what am I paying for the complete account?”

Our initial verdict: Signature can remain a good package for customers who value Sky Q recording and have a competitive account-specific price. It should be reviewed carefully when discounts have ended or several separate add-ons have accumulated.

What is Sky Signature?

Sky Signature is a television package associated primarily with Sky Q accounts. It replaced older entertainment package names on many customer bills and acts as the foundation to which other services can be added.

It is not currently the main package Sky promotes to a new customer ordering online. Sky's current public streaming range instead uses:

  • Sky Essential TV as the lower-cost Stream and Glass package
  • Sky Ultimate TV as the larger Stream and Glass entertainment package

Sky Signature nevertheless remains a live and relevant product for eligible Sky Q customers. Sky's current streaming-app eligibility pages still specifically identify Signature customers as qualifying for services such as HBO Max.

Sky Signature is...

  • A core entertainment package used on Sky Q accounts
  • Relevant to existing customers rather than a simple public new-customer deal
  • A base to which premium packs can be added
  • Compatible with Sky Q recording and on-demand features
  • Eligible for several streaming-app benefits

Sky Signature is not...

  • A guarantee that every Sky service is included
  • A single universal price for all customers
  • The same product as Sky Ultimate on Stream or Glass
  • Automatic proof that every channel is available in HD
  • A replacement for Sports, Cinema, TNT Sports or Multiscreen
The name alone does not reveal the complete package Two customers can both have Sky Signature but pay different amounts and have different add-ons, discounts, equipment and contract dates.

What does Sky Signature include?

Signature provides the core Sky Q entertainment subscription. Sky Atlantic remains available to Signature customers, alongside a broader entertainment and on-demand selection.

The exact channel list can change over time. Customers should therefore use the TV guide and My Sky account rather than relying on an old claim that Signature always contains a fixed number of channels.

In practical terms, Signature commonly provides:

  • Sky Atlantic
  • A selection of Sky entertainment channels
  • Entertainment channels from other broadcasters
  • Box sets and eligible on-demand programmes
  • Access to supported apps on a Sky Q box
  • Sky Go access for eligible subscription content
  • Sky Q recording and download functionality

Premium sports, film and specialist services are normally handled separately.

Which streaming apps come with Sky Signature in 2026?

Sky significantly expanded the streaming content available to eligible Sky Q customers during 2026.

The important 2026 streaming update

Eligible Sky Q customers with Sky Signature, Sky Entertainment and certain other packages were given access to Disney+ Standard with Ads, HBO Max Basic with Ads and selected Hayu content as part of their Sky TV subscription.

Disney+ Standard with Ads Included for Sky Q customers except customers on excluded packages such as TV Essentials and Sky Basics.
HBO Max Basic with Ads Included for eligible Sky Signature and Sky Entertainment customers using Sky Q.
Hayu content Selected Hayu programming has been added for eligible customers. This should not automatically be treated as a full standalone Hayu subscription.
Netflix Standard Signature does not automatically include Netflix. Sky Q customers with Ultimate TV receive Netflix as part of that larger package.

Do you need to activate the apps?

Yes, activation may be required. Open the relevant app or the app-subscription section within My Sky and follow the instructions to create or connect an account.

Existing direct subscriptions need particular attention. Activating an included Sky version without correctly managing the old subscription could leave two active billing arrangements.

Can you upgrade the included plans?

Sky allows eligible customers to upgrade from an included advert-supported plan to a higher tier where one is available. The customer normally pays the additional difference.

An upgraded tier may provide:

  • Fewer or no advertisements
  • More simultaneous streams
  • Higher picture quality
  • Additional download options
Check for duplicate subscriptions Before activating an included Disney+ or HBO Max plan, confirm whether you already pay the service directly through the app store, provider or another email address.

How to understand a Sky Signature bill

A Sky Q bill can contain several separate product lines. Looking only at the Signature price may therefore give a misleading impression of the true cost.

Does Sky Signature include HD?

Customers should not assume that the word Signature means every paid channel will be supplied in its highest available resolution.

On many Sky Q accounts, HD and Ultra HD appear as separate products or entitlements. Your bill and My Sky account are the safest sources for confirming what you receive.

Free-to-air HD and paid-channel HD are different issues

Some free-to-air broadcasters provide HD versions independently of the Sky HD add-on. Premium Sky and subscription channels can have different entitlement requirements.

Is Ultra HD worth keeping?

Ultra HD is most useful when:

  • You own a compatible 4K television
  • Your Sky Q box supports UHD
  • You regularly watch UHD sport, films or drama
  • Your television is large enough for the difference to be noticeable
  • The additional charge is reasonable

It may offer poor value when most viewing consists of ordinary terrestrial channels or programmes unavailable in UHD.

Check the download preference on Sky Q On-demand programmes may be offered in SD, HD or UHD depending on the subscription, box and programme. A download setting can sometimes explain why a lower-quality version is being selected.

Which services normally cost extra?

Sky Signature should be treated as the starting point of a Sky Q account rather than an all-inclusive package.

Premium content

  • Sky Sports
  • Sky Cinema
  • TNT Sports
  • Sky Kids where separate

Picture and sound

  • Sky HD where separately billed
  • Ultra HD
  • Dolby Atmos eligibility
  • Higher streaming-app tiers

Additional viewing

  • Sky Q Multiscreen
  • Sky Q Mini boxes
  • Additional app subscriptions
  • Pay-per-view events

Should you remove add-ons before negotiating?

Usually, yes. First establish the smallest package that meets the household's actual needs. Then ask Sky for its best price on that revised package.

A discount on an unused product is still wasted money. Removing a £10 add-on saves more than receiving a small percentage discount on it.

Sky Signature vs Sky Ultimate TV

Signature and Ultimate occupy similar positions as broader entertainment packages, but they apply to different Sky platforms and should not be treated as identical products.

Should you keep Sky Signature?

The correct answer depends on the package price, the add-ons attached to it and how strongly you value Sky Q's recording system.

Keep Signature

Keeping it may make sense when:

  • Your discounted price is competitive
  • You regularly use Sky Q recordings
  • Your satellite service is reliable
  • You already own compatible Q equipment
  • The included apps add genuine value

Renegotiate Signature

Review the account when:

  • A discount has ended
  • The bill has risen substantially
  • You have several unused add-ons
  • Your minimum term is ending
  • New-customer prices are much lower

Consider switching

Stream or another service may suit you when:

  • You no longer need conventional recordings
  • You want a dish-free setup
  • You have dependable broadband
  • You want a simpler package structure
  • A competing service is materially cheaper

Three example customers

The recording-focused household

This household records live programmes, stores films and returns to saved content months later. Sky Q and Signature may still offer more practical value than switching to a Playlist-based platform.

The streaming-focused household

This household mostly watches apps and on-demand content and rarely uses the Sky Q hard drive. Stream, Glass or a mixture of standalone subscriptions may be easier to justify.

The sports-focused household

This customer should compare the complete price of Signature plus Sports, HD and Multiscreen. A lower base package, NOW membership or another television provider may offer a better total cost depending on viewing habits.

What happens when you move from Sky Q to Stream or Glass?

Moving platform is more significant than simply renaming the package. It changes how television is delivered, stored and used.

You choose a new television package A Stream order begins a new contract using the current streaming package structure.
Your recordings do not transfer Programmes stored on the Sky Q hard drive cannot be moved into Stream or Glass.
Television becomes broadband-dependent Live and on-demand viewing through Stream or Glass relies on a stable internet connection.
Playlist replaces traditional recording Programmes are gathered from live, cloud, catch-up and app sources rather than stored entirely on a local hard drive.
Multiroom changes Sky Q Mini boxes and Multiscreen are replaced by Whole Home and additional compatible streaming devices.
Equipment may need to be returned Sky Q boxes and other loaned equipment can be subject to return requirements when the Q subscription ends.
Do not switch until important recordings have been watched Once the Sky Q service and equipment are replaced, the existing hard-drive library will not become available through Sky Stream or Sky Glass.

How to negotiate a better Sky Signature price

Signature prices for existing customers can be account-specific. Preparation therefore matters more than searching for one supposed universal renewal rate.

  1. Open My Sky: identify the current package, add-ons and discounts.
  2. Record every contract date: Signature, Sports, Cinema and Multiscreen may not all end together.
  3. Remove unused services: build the package you genuinely need.
  4. Compare alternatives: include Stream, NOW, EE TV, Virgin Media and standalone apps.
  5. Set a target: decide the maximum complete monthly price you will accept.
  6. Ask for the total: request one figure including every retained service.
  7. Confirm the new term: obtain the start date, end date and discount expiry in writing.
A useful question to ask Sky “What is the lowest total monthly price available for Signature and only the services I have asked to keep, and what will that price become when each discount ends?”

Is Sky Signature worth keeping in 2026?

Switchking's final verdict

Sky Signature is not obsolete. It remains a meaningful package for existing Sky Q customers and has received additional value through the inclusion of streaming services such as Disney+ Standard with Ads and HBO Max Basic with Ads for eligible accounts.

Its principal advantage is the Sky Q platform. Traditional hard-drive recording remains important for viewers who want more control over saved programmes than a streaming Playlist can always provide.

The weakness is transparency. Signature does not have one simple public price for every existing customer, and a complete Sky Q account can contain numerous separate charges. Sports, Cinema, HD, UHD and Multiscreen can make the final bill substantially higher than the core package price.

Keep Signature when the complete price is competitive and Sky Q recording matters to you. Renegotiate it when discounts expire. Move to Stream or another service only after comparing the full cost and understanding what will happen to your recordings and equipment.

Sky Signature frequently asked questions

Does Sky Signature include Sky Atlantic?

Yes. Sky currently identifies Sky Atlantic as available to eligible Sky Q Signature customers.

Does Sky Signature include HBO Max?

Does Sky Signature include the full Hayu subscription?

Eligible customers receive selected Hayu content. Do not assume this is identical to a full standalone Hayu subscription without checking the current account details.

HD entitlement can appear separately on Sky Q accounts. Check the Sky HD line on your bill and the channels available through your viewing card.

Is Sky Sports included with Signature?

No. Sky Sports is normally a separate premium add-on.

Is Sky Cinema included with Signature?

No. Sky Cinema normally appears as a separate package or add-on.

Can I keep Sky Signature and remove Sports?

You can ask Sky to change or remove products, but a minimum term or notice requirement may apply. Confirm the resulting package price before proceeding.

Will moving to Sky Stream delete my recordings?

Your existing Sky Q recordings do not transfer to Stream. Watch anything important before ending the Sky Q service.

Do I have to return my Sky Q equipment?

Sky may require loaned Sky Q equipment to be returned when the relevant subscription ends or equipment is replaced. Follow the account-specific return instructions and retain tracking evidence.

How can I get a better Sky Signature deal?

Review the entire account, remove unused add-ons, compare current alternatives and ask Sky for the lowest total price for the revised package. Confirm all new contract dates before accepting.
