What is Sky Glass and should I get it?

Sky Glass is a revolutionary service and product provided by Sky. Sky call it the smarter TV due to the fact that Sky TV and all of their add-on services are integrated into the TV. Every channel, show, add-on service and app are streamable through the TV over wifi. For this there is no need to have a dedicated Sky box or another TV, it all comes together as one package. The added benefit of Sky Glass is that there is no need for a satellite dish that is needed for Sky Q because it all streams over Wifi.

If you want a hassle-free, all in one solution, Sky Glass is the way to go. If you live in a high rise flat or rented building where your landlord or building manager will not allow satellite installations or it costs extra fees to your building to install a satellite, Sky Glass is the ideal option. If you want to have everything in one with your Sky TV, Disney+, Netflix, BT Sport and other services without all the trouble of changing HDMI cables or using multiple TV remote controls, this solves that problem.

Sky have been environmentally conscious with this new product so Sky Glass is carbon neutral. Sky Glass includes a remote control, stand and wall mount in matching colours for your TV.

There are 5 colours to choose from, they are: Ceramic White, Ocean Blue, Dusky Pink, Racing Green, Anthracite Black.

What about the Sky Glass TV?

We’ve mentioned the size, 43 inches which is the small TV, 55 inches for the medium and 65 inches for the large. The TV itself is 4K Ultra HD and can handle Dobly Vision. In addition to this it can support HDR 10 and HLG HDR, with a 60HZ refresh rate. It has a Quantum Dot LED panel and the Sky Glass has backlight in all colours to help immerse you when watching your favourite shows or movies to make you feel the emotions and atmosphere of whatever you are watching, a real game changer.

The TV has three HDMI ports which are 2.1 ports, and are eARC and CEC enabled. Another useful addition is the USB C port so you can add add-on devices like the camera or charge your phone. There’s Ethernet and Wifi 6 and a digital TV tuner just in case you lose your internet and still want to watch standard TV.

Sky Glass has 6 speakers so there’s no need for a sound bar and the sound quality is top-notch. The configuration is 3.1.2 with 215W shouting from the front three speakers, a subwoofer in the middle and the other two speaker blasting up to the ceiling helping for a truly impressive surround sound experience.

Sky Glass has different modes to watch your TV as well and this will vary depending on what you are watching.

How long will Sky Glass last? Can I replace it easily?

Sky have vowed to update the Sky Glass hardware on a two year basis. The great part here is that you can exchange your current Sky Glass for the newer models.

Can I use Multiroom or Multiscreen with Sky Glass?

Yes, you do not need multiple Sky Glass TVs to do this. Sky Multiscreen or Multiroom works the same as if you were opting for Sky Q or Sky TV. Just add Sky Multiscreen to your package and they will send you the Sky Q Mini boxes, maximum four, that you can connect up to your Sky Broadband and watch in as many rooms as you have Sky Q Mini boxes.
