Compare Sky Sports Vs BT Sport

Comparison and Reviews

BT Sport and Sky Sports are two of the top premium sports services available on the market at the moment. BT Sport and Sky Sports have a full range sports events and often compete with each other to provide the best service but at the same time acknowledge that they need to work together by providing joint packages to their customers. We will look at the pros and cons of each and the cheapest way to get Sky Sports and BT Sport as well as other aspects you might not be aware of.

It is so easy to have multiple streaming services and packages that take £10 here and £7.99 there, ultimately this all adds up and when we’re entering a period of high bills on the fundamental monthly living costs, it’s important to choose the right package and keep those monthly costs down but still enjoy life.

With Sports packages there is a lot to choose from and they can range wildly in prices. You may only want a few channels to want a particular sport or want every single Sports channel to enjoy each event. Alternatively, you may just want to have the option to use it for just one month like Netflix. Let us help you make the best decision for your needs.

BT Sports Sky Sports TV

Sky Sports Vs BT Sport - Let's Compare The Main Differences

BT Sports

Looking at each service individually, BT Sports doesn’t have as many channels to choose from but this is countered by the fact that the monthly cost is lower. With BT Sports, you can choose either “Sport” or “Big Sport”.

BT Sport Package

If you opt for Sport, you have access to BT Sport 1, BT Sport 2, BT Sport 3 as well as BT Sport ESPN all available in HD. For the football fans reading, this will include Live Premier League and UEFA Champions League. Other sports that this will cover are Premiership Rugby, Cricket, Boxing, Hockey, Baseball, Basketball, Red Bull’s various events and WWE wrestling. This all comes for the nice tidy price of £16 a month for 24 months, which is not too much more expensive than some of the streaming services out there and you get more sports content than you can shake a hairy stick at. Unlike the streaming services, you are locked in for the 24 months, unless you cancel. There’s a one-off setup fee with BT Sports of £39.99, double that of Sky Sports. Even with the high set-up fee, it is still the most affordable sports service on the market.

BT Big Sport Package

Big Sport offers all 11 Sky Sports channels, Eurosports 1 and 2, with the BT Sports channels on top, this is almost the same as the Sky TV, Sky Sports and BT Sport Package. It’s higher in price than BT Sports standard package but less than the Sky TV full Sports package at £41 a month with the same set up fee. With this option you can up to the BT Sport Contract-free.

The BT Sport option that may suit most is the BT Sport Monthly Pass and it is much more like conventional streaming services but at a high price point, it’s £25 a month which gives you access for 30 days and you do not need to have a contract with BT TV or BT Broadband. This is often a better option for those who want to see what BT Sport has to offer before signing up to a full contract.

What channel is BT Sports?

This depends on what service you are watching your BT Sports on.

If you are watching BT Sports on BT TV or TalkTalk, BT Sport 1 is channel 408, BT Sport 2 is channel 409, BT Sport is channel 410. Click here’s a full list for BT TV.

If you are watching BT Sports on Sky TV, BT Sport 1 is on channel 867, BT Sport 2 is on channel 869 and BT Sport 3 is on channel 869. Click here’s a full list for Sky TV.

How to get BT Sport on Freeview TV?

BT Sport used to be available on Freeview channel 115, it was known as BT Sport Showcase. This is not available anymore. BT Sport Showcase was a free TV channel available with Freeview but with their main services being paid for, it means that BT Sport Showcase could no longer be offered for free. If you use freeview and you want to access BT Sport without paying for a big subscription service, you can buy the monthly passes. Click here to access the monthly pass.

You can use this monthly pass on your laptop, sometimes on the BT.com/sport  you may find a game being broadcast for free but the monthly pass is such good value for money that it is worth buying.

If you want to view BT Sport on your big screen but cannot access it with your current TV provider, there are a few options; you can play it through your games console with the BT Sport App, you can connect your laptop via a HDMI cable to your TV and share the screen or you can cast from your laptop to your TV depending on your home technology set up.

How to Cancel BT Sports?

If you want to cancel BT Sports, you just need to login to your MyBT account, find the  BT Sport Monthly Pass and then select the “Cancel Subscription”. If you decide to cancel this, you will still be able to keep watching until your 30 day viewing period runs out. That’s a great part about BT Sports, when you want to cancel BT sports, it can be done very easily so the commitment is low.

BT Sports Versus Sky Sports

Sky Sports

Sky has multiple options to choose from. If you’re an existing customer to Sky, adding Sky Sports to your contract is very easy. If you’re a new customer it’s a bigger commitment. You need to sign up to Sky TV and add the Sports package as an add-on. This is where Sky loses out to BT but let’s look at what Sky offers.

Sky Sports Package

Sky’s Sport service is more expensive than BT and this is because it comes as part of a larger service. With Sky you can get Sky TV, Netflix as standard and then opt for the “Sky TV, Netflix and Sky Sports” or go for the “Sky TV, Sky Sports and BT Sports“.

What do you get with Sky Sports?

The difference between the two is similar to BT Sports versus BT Big Sports. Sky TV, Netflix and Sky Sports offers 11 channels; Premier League, Main Event, Golf, Cricket, Racing, Action, F1, News and Mix. Sky Sports service is very comprehensive and they provide some very engaging applications with their service for a more immersive sports experience. The set-up fee is cheaper than BT Sports at £20 and the contract length is 6 months shorter at 18 months but the monthly package price sits at £46 a month.

Sky Sports and BT Sports as a Package

Sky TV, Sky Sports and BT Sports is Sky’s full sports package. This includes the 13 channels above plus the 4 BT channels (BT Sports 1, 2, 3 and BT Sports ESPN), totalling 17 channels. For this reason it is the most expensive service because it comes with Sky TV. 18 months for £67 a month and a £20 set-up fee. If you want to ultimate Sports package, this is the option to go for but we believe that all the other packages are worth looking at and any should offer the service you need. For the right service for you, make sure you check the events you watch the most are available in the plan you choose.

Sky Sport and BT Sports

Sky Sports Vs BT Sport - Which is better value for money?

It is clear that without a doubt, if you are looking for the cheapest option the BT Monthly Pass is the option for you. The monthly pass means you can cancel at any time and you aren’t locked into a contract. However this doesn’t mean it’s the best value for money. For those who are really avid sports fans, the Sky full Sports package is great value for money and it is the better service of the two brands.

For a tight budget BT wins, for top quality all sports and events covered Sky wins.

Sky Sports Vs BT Sport - Can I get both Together?

Yes, this is possible for both BT contract holders and Sky contract holders.
