TalkTalk Broadband review: the short version
TalkTalk has evolved from a budget part-fibre provider into a much broader Full Fibre service. Its current range covers simple 35Mbps and 65Mbps connections, mainstream FTTP packages and speeds reaching 900Mbps.
The provider's main appeal remains value. Current Full Fibre prices undercut or compete closely with many larger rivals, and every broadband plan includes a compatible router and HomeSafe web filtering.
The product range is not perfectly tidy. TalkTalk sells both Fibre 65 and Full Fibre 65, even though they use different technology. Full Fibre 150 is presently cheaper than both, making the postcode check essential.

The postcode checker determines whether TalkTalk offers part fibre, Full Fibre or TalkTalk U at your property.
What is TalkTalk U?
TalkTalk U is a newer Full Fibre proposition intended to adapt the home connection around real usage rather than forcing every customer to choose and retain one fixed speed tier.
TalkTalk describes it as smart Wi-Fi with speeds ranging from 65Mbps to 900Mbps. The connection can increase or decrease over time according to usage while the customer's monthly payment remains based on the chosen U arrangement.
The offer also considers the home's size and layout when determining Wi-Fi coverage and whether a booster is appropriate.
Potential advantages
- Full Fibre connection
- Speed adapts to usage
- Wi-Fi planned around the property
- Wi-Fi Hub 3 with mesh capability
- Less pressure to predict a perfect fixed tier
What to check
- Exact monthly price offered to the address
- Whether a booster is included
- The minimum and potential maximum speed
- How speed adaptation works in practice
- The final Contract Summary
Which TalkTalk speed should you choose?
| Household | Sensible starting tier | Why |
|---|---|---|
| One light user | Full Fibre 65 or 150 | Enough for browsing, streaming and ordinary calls |
| Couple or small household | Full Fibre 150 | Strong capacity at the current lowest headline price |
| Busy family | Full Fibre 500 | Plenty of headroom for simultaneous demanding activity |
| Several heavy users | Full Fibre 500 or 900 | Faster large downloads and more shared capacity |
| Power user | Full Fibre 900 | Very fast downloads where equipment can use the speed |
| No FTTP availability | Fibre 65 | Best of TalkTalk's mainstream part-fibre choices |
Most ordinary households do not need 900Mbps. Streaming television, browsing and online gaming each use much less bandwidth than that.
The faster packages mainly reduce large download times and preserve capacity when several people use the connection heavily at once.
TalkTalk part fibre vs Full Fibre
| Feature | Part fibre | Full Fibre |
|---|---|---|
| Connection to the property | Copper for the final section | Fibre all the way |
| Current TalkTalk speeds | 35 or 65Mbps average | 65–900Mbps average |
| Distance sensitivity | Higher | Lower |
| Installation | May use an existing compatible line | May require an engineer and optical terminal |
| Long-term choice | Useful where FTTP is unavailable | Preferred where available |
Part fibre carries data over fibre to local equipment before using copper to reach the home. Full Fibre, or FTTP, removes that copper access section.
TalkTalk currently sells both Fibre 65 and Full Fibre 65. Their average download headline is the same, but the underlying connection is different. At equal prices, Full Fibre 65 is the stronger choice.
TalkTalk Wi-Fi Hub 3 review
TalkTalk's current Full Fibre pages advertise the Wi-Fi Hub 3 across its Full Fibre range.
Its headline features include:
- Wi-Fi 6
- Mesh-ready connectivity
- Support for many connected devices
- Improved wireless efficiency
- Design suited to Full Fibre speeds
Wi-Fi 6 is a meaningful improvement over older router standards, particularly where many compatible devices compete for airtime. It does not guarantee that every room receives the full broadband speed.
The exact equipment can depend on the package, infrastructure and existing-customer circumstances. Check the order confirmation rather than assuming every TalkTalk customer receives identical hardware.
TalkTalk Wi-Fi coverage and mesh
The Wi-Fi Hub 3 includes mesh capability, allowing compatible equipment to extend wireless coverage across a home.
TalkTalk U places particular emphasis on selecting coverage around the property's size and layout. Other TalkTalk plans may have optional coverage solutions or upgrades depending on the order.
Improving TalkTalk Wi-Fi
- Place the hub in an open and reasonably central position
- Avoid cupboards, floors and spaces behind televisions
- Keep the router away from thick obstructions and strong interference
- Use Ethernet for fixed equipment where possible
- Consider compatible mesh coverage for large properties
Do not automatically upgrade from 150Mbps to 900Mbps because one room has weak Wi-Fi. A coverage problem can remain even after the internet package becomes faster.
TalkTalk HomeSafe
HomeSafe is included with TalkTalk fibre plans. It provides network-level web filtering for devices connected through the home broadband service.
Customers can use it to:
- Block selected categories of websites
- Apply homework-time restrictions
- Help filter malicious and scam-related destinations
- Manage settings through My Account
HomeSafe can be useful for households with children, but it does not replace device updates, strong passwords, multi-factor authentication and appropriate security software.
Can you get TalkTalk TV?
TalkTalk offers television services to eligible broadband customers. Its current TV proposition combines a TalkTalk TV Hub with Freeview channels, catch-up services and access to streaming applications.
TalkTalk advertises TV and broadband additions from around £5 a month, although availability and the precise service depend on the broadband connection and customer status.
The TV Hub normally works best with a television aerial for the complete Freeview channel line-up. Streaming subscriptions are separate unless specifically included in the selected offer.
Does TalkTalk Broadband include a home phone?
TalkTalk's newer broadband products are increasingly data-only or use Digital Voice rather than a traditional analogue phone service.
If a home phone is important, check whether Digital Voice is available with the exact package and whether a calling boost is required.
Internet-based phone services depend on working broadband and electricity. They normally stop during a power cut unless suitable backup equipment is available.
TalkTalk contracts and annual price increases
TalkTalk's main public broadband offers currently use a 24-month minimum term.
The current package pages show a £4 monthly increase in April 2027 followed by another £4 increase in April 2028.
| Current starting price | From April 2027 | From April 2028 |
|---|---|---|
| £25 | £29 | £33 |
| £26 | £30 | £34 |
| £30 | £34 | £38 |
| £36 | £40 | £44 |
The exact contract total depends on when the service begins and the offer shown in the Contract Summary.
Switching to TalkTalk and installation
One Touch Switch allows most residential customers to change broadband provider through the new provider without separately cancelling the old compatible service.
TalkTalk coordinates the transfer and confirms the activation date. Customers with bundled television, mobile services or unusual line arrangements should still check what happens to each element of the old account.
Part-fibre installation
An existing compatible line may allow remote activation and self-installation. TalkTalk can require an engineer where the line or property needs additional work.
Full Fibre installation
A first FTTP connection may require an engineer to bring fibre to the property and install an optical network terminal. The appointment normally takes around one to two hours, although complex installations can take longer.
Tenants may need permission for drilling or external cabling.
TalkTalk speed guarantees
TalkTalk provides personalised speed information and a Guaranteed Minimum Download Speed during the sales process.
It participates in Ofcom's residential broadband speed code. If the connection repeatedly falls below the promised minimum after the customer reports the issue, TalkTalk must investigate and attempt to resolve it.
If a qualifying problem cannot be fixed within the applicable process, the customer may gain the right to leave without the normal early termination charge.
Is TalkTalk Broadband good for gaming?
TalkTalk Full Fibre should be suitable for online gaming. Actual gameplay normally uses relatively little bandwidth; latency, jitter, packet loss and stability matter more.
Faster packages make their biggest gaming difference when downloading large titles and updates.
- Full Fibre 150 is sufficient for normal gaming households
- Full Fibre 500 provides more headroom for simultaneous downloads and streaming
- Full Fibre 900 greatly reduces download time where servers and equipment can keep up
Use Ethernet for a console or gaming computer where practical. A wired link removes much of the variability introduced by weak or congested Wi-Fi.
Is TalkTalk Broadband good for working from home?
Yes. Full Fibre 150 should support ordinary video meetings, office applications, remote access and cloud documents for most households.
Full Fibre 500 is more appropriate when several people work from home, large downloads are common or the connection must handle work alongside heavy household streaming.
TalkTalk does not include automatic mobile backup as a normal standard feature. Someone whose income depends on constant connectivity should maintain an appropriate contingency rather than assuming any residential fixed line will never fail.

TalkTalk Broadband review 2026: verdict
Strong Full Fibre value, with Full Fibre 150 and 500 leading the range
TalkTalk's modern broadband proposition is much stronger than its old reputation as a basic part-fibre provider suggests.
The current Full Fibre range reaches 900Mbps, and the Wi-Fi Hub 3 provides Wi-Fi 6 with mesh capability. HomeSafe adds useful household controls without a separate monthly security subscription.
Pricing is the clearest reason to consider TalkTalk. Full Fibre 150 currently starts at £25, while Full Fibre 500 costs £30. Those are credible packages for smaller and busy households respectively.
TalkTalk U is also interesting. Designing the connection and Wi-Fi around actual household demand is more useful than encouraging every customer to buy the largest speed number.
The drawbacks are the 24-month commitment and substantial annual increases. A £25 starting price can become £29 and then £33 during the life of a contract. Customers must compare the complete cost, not the first bill.
Our verdict: TalkTalk is a strong-value Full Fibre provider. Start with Full Fibre 150 for an ordinary household or Full Fibre 500 for a busy home. Choose part-fibre Fibre 65 only when FTTP is unavailable, and examine TalkTalk U carefully if its personalised Wi-Fi proposition suits your property.
