BT Full Fibre is straightforward technically — choosing the right speed is the harder part

BT's fibre-to-the-premises service currently reaches up to 900Mbps. Its public deal grid puts Full Fibre 300, 500 and 900 surprisingly close together on price, but the fastest package is still unnecessary for many households.

Switchking verdict: Full Fibre 500 is the balanced choice for a busy household, while the small current price difference can make Full Fibre 900 attractive to heavy users. Full Fibre 300 remains more than sufficient for ordinary streaming, browsing, gaming and home working. Choose by your real usage and the whole-contract price, not the largest number available.

BT Full Fibre broadband: the quick verdict

Best all-round tierFull Fibre 500 for a busy household with several demanding users.
Best for most homesFull Fibre 300 is already ample for normal streaming and home working.
Best maximum speedFull Fibre 900 for large downloads and many simultaneous heavy users.
Main cautionScheduled annual price rises make the full contract cost higher than today's headline.

BT Full Fibre uses fibre-optic cable all the way to the property rather than relying on the old copper phone line for the final part of the connection.

That generally makes it faster and more dependable than part-fibre broadband. The current public Full Fibre range centres on 300Mbps, 500Mbps and 900Mbps download tiers, although the packages displayed at your address can differ.

BT's strengths include a mature Openreach network, UK and Ireland support teams, its Stay Fast Guarantee, the current Smart Hub 3 and optional whole-home and mobile-backup products. Its weaknesses are the 24-month commitment, scheduled annual price increases and uploads which remain substantially below downloads.

Pros

  • Full fibre connection to the property
  • Speeds up to 900Mbps
  • Current Smart Hub 3 uses Wi-Fi 6
  • Minimum speed guarantee for the connection to the hub
  • Optional Complete Wi-Fi and Hybrid Connect
  • Strong national brand and extensive Openreach footprint
  • Advanced threat protection included on current deals

Cons

  • 24-month minimum term on current public offers
  • Broadband price rises by £4 each 31 March under current terms
  • Upload speeds are not symmetrical
  • Full Fibre availability remains postcode dependent
  • Whole-home Wi-Fi and mobile backup can cost extra
  • 900Mbps is excessive for many households

BT Full Fibre packages and prices

BT's public deal page displayed the following Full Fibre offers when we checked on 1 October 2026. Treat these as a dated comparison rather than a permanent price list: promotions and availability can change, and BT will show the contractual figures for your address during checkout.

PackageDownloadUploadStay Fast figureStarting priceScheduled price
Full Fibre 300300Mbps49Mbps150Mbps£30.99/month£34.99 from 31 March 2027
£38.99 from 31 March 2028
Full Fibre 500Our balanced pick500Mbps73Mbps425Mbps£33.99/month£37.99 from 31 March 2027
£41.99 from 31 March 2028
Full Fibre 900900Mbps110Mbps700Mbps£35.99/month£39.99 from 31 March 2027
£43.99 from 31 March 2028

All three examples used a 24-month minimum term and £0 activation. The Stay Fast figure is a guarantee for the speed reaching the BT Hub, not a promise that every Wi-Fi device will receive that speed in every room.

The price gaps are currently unusually small At the checked public prices, Full Fibre 500 costs £3 more each month than 300, and Full Fibre 900 costs £5 more than 300. That makes the faster tiers easier to justify than they would be with a large premium — but buying unused capacity is still spending more than necessary.

Which BT Full Fibre speed should you choose?

HouseholdLikely sensible tierWhy
One or two light users300Mbps or the lowest available Full Fibre tierBrowsing, calls and streaming require far less than 300Mbps.
Typical family300MbpsPlenty of capacity for several streams, games, calls and devices.
Busy household500MbpsMore breathing room when multiple users download, stream and work simultaneously.
Heavy downloaders900MbpsLarge games and files can complete faster when the source and device keep up.
Professional upload useCompare networks, not only BT tiersBT's upload speeds remain much lower than its downloads; a symmetrical provider may suit better.

A single 4K stream typically needs only a fraction of a 300Mbps line. Online gaming also uses relatively little bandwidth while a match is running. Higher tiers mainly reduce the time required for very large downloads and provide extra capacity when many people are active together.

Your Wi-Fi equipment can become the limiting factor A 900Mbps line does not mean every phone, television or laptop will display 900Mbps over Wi-Fi. Device capability, distance, walls, interference and the remote server all affect the result. Wired Ethernet is the clearest way to test the connection close to its maximum.

What happened to BT Full Fibre 100?

BT documentation still refers to Full Fibre 100, and existing or address-specific offers may continue to use the name. However, it was not prominent in the main public new-customer deal grid we checked, which instead presented Full Fibre 300, 500 and 900.

That is why this guide consolidates the old Switchking Full Fibre 100 page without declaring the package permanently withdrawn. If BT offers a lower tier at your postcode, judge it on its live price, upload speed and minimum guarantee rather than the product name alone.

What is BT Full Fibre?

BT Full Fibre is an FTTP connection: fibre-optic cable runs from the exchange network through to an Optical Network Terminal inside your property. Your BT Hub connects to that terminal.

Full Fibre / FTTP

  • Fibre reaches the property
  • No copper last leg for broadband
  • Current BT tiers reach 900Mbps
  • Generally more consistent at distance

Part Fibre / FTTC

  • Fibre reaches the street cabinet
  • Copper completes the journey
  • Speed falls with copper-line distance
  • Much lower maximum performance

The physical network is commonly installed and maintained by Openreach. BT is the retail provider supplying the package, billing, hub and customer support.

Full Fibre availability is still property-specific. A neighbouring street can be live while another address waits for local network work, wayleaves or building access.

BT Full Fibre upload speeds

Upload speed controls how quickly you send data to the internet. It matters for cloud backup, sending large video files, live broadcasting, remote production work and some security-camera systems.

At the time checked, BT advertised approximately:

  • 49Mbps upload with Full Fibre 300
  • 73Mbps upload with Full Fibre 500
  • 110Mbps upload with Full Fibre 900
BT Full Fibre is not symmetrical The 900Mbps package does not provide a 900Mbps upload. If uploading enormous files is central to your work, compare the address-specific upstream estimates from Vodafone, Zen or another provider using a network that may offer symmetrical service.

How BT's speed guarantees work

BT's Stay Fast Guarantee concerns the broadband performance reaching the Hub. The current public deal page showed minimum figures of 150Mbps for Full Fibre 300, 425Mbps for Full Fibre 500 and 700Mbps for Full Fibre 900.

If the connection remains below the relevant guarantee after BT has had the defined opportunity to fix it, its published process can lead to a £20 reward card and, in qualifying circumstances, the ability to leave without an early termination charge.

A speed guarantee is not a whole-home Wi-Fi guarantee The Hub can receive the guaranteed broadband speed while a distant bedroom gets much less over Wi-Fi. Wi-Fi coverage is addressed separately through hub placement, Ethernet, mesh equipment or BT's Complete Wi-Fi product.

BT Smart Hub 3

BT's current Full Fibre proposition uses the Smart Hub 3 for eligible new customers. It supports Wi-Fi 6, dual-band wireless, seven antennas and four gigabit Ethernet ports.

Wi-Fi 6 improves efficiency and capacity compared with older generations, particularly when many compatible devices are connected. It does not guarantee full line speed in every room, and older devices continue to use the Wi-Fi standard they support.

The Hub is also designed to work with BT services including Complete Wi-Fi, Hybrid Connect and Digital Voice. BT treats supplied hubs as its equipment and can charge if equipment that must be returned is not sent back within the stated return window.

BT Complete Wi-Fi

Complete Wi-Fi is BT's optional whole-home coverage proposition. It uses Wi-Fi discs with the Hub to extend coverage beyond the area one router can reliably reach.

BT supplies one disc initially and can provide up to two more after its support process, making three discs in total. Under the published guarantee, qualifying customers can receive a one-off £100 bill credit if BT cannot provide the promised coverage throughout the main dwelling.

The guarantee does not normally extend to gardens, sheds, garages or other outbuildings. Read the current terms if those spaces are important to you.

Need better coverage rather than more broadband speed?

A lower speed tier with a well-planned mesh system can outperform a 900Mbps package delivered through weak Wi-Fi at the device.

Check BT options

Hybrid Connect and BT Halo

Hybrid Connect provides mobile-network backup designed to keep compatible BT broadband customers online if the fixed line fails. It is about resilience, not matching the speed of a fibre connection.

BT has also packaged connectivity and support extras through Halo. These add-ons can be useful where downtime matters, but compare the total monthly cost with a standard Full Fibre package and a separate mobile hotspot.

Read our BT Halo 3 review for the dedicated comparison.

BT Full Fibre installation

If the property already has a working Openreach Full Fibre connection, activation may be relatively simple. A first-time FTTP installation normally requires an engineer to bring fibre to the property and fit an Optical Network Terminal inside.

  1. Openreach checks or completes the external route to the property.
  2. An engineer agrees a suitable entry point and installs the internal terminal.
  3. The BT Hub connects to the terminal using Ethernet.
  4. The service is activated and tested.

Installation details vary for flats, rented homes, listed buildings and properties requiring new external work. Obtain any necessary landlord or building-management permission before the appointment.

Phone service and Digital Voice

BT Full Fibre broadband does not automatically include a traditional analogue phone service. BT states that, unless Digital Home Phone is added, there is no call service, dial tone or ability to make emergency calls through the broadband package.

Digital Voice carries calls through the broadband connection. That means compatible equipment needs power and the service can be affected by a power cut or broadband outage. Customers who are vulnerable or rely on a landline should discuss resilience arrangements with BT before switching.

Is BT Full Fibre good for gaming and home working?

Gaming

Full Fibre is well suited to gaming because stability and latency matter more than extreme bandwidth during play. Higher tiers mainly shorten large game and update downloads. Use Ethernet where possible for the most consistent connection.

Home working

Video calls and ordinary cloud work run comfortably on Full Fibre 300. Full Fibre 500 or 900 becomes useful for several simultaneous workers, large downloads or production workloads. Upload-heavy professionals should compare upstream speeds carefully.

BT Full Fibre contract costs and price rises

The public offers checked used a 24-month minimum term. Under BT's current pricing approach, the broadband charge rises by £4 each 31 March. BT's deal grid already showed the resulting 2027 and 2028 monthly prices.

PackageStarting monthly priceFrom 31 March 2027From 31 March 2028
Full Fibre 300£30.99£34.99£38.99
Full Fibre 500£33.99£37.99£41.99
Full Fibre 900£35.99£39.99£43.99

The exact amount paid in each period depends on the order and activation dates. Use the personalised Contract Summary to calculate the full minimum-term cost.

BT also states that after the minimum term it may increase the monthly price by up to £5 above the final in-contract price unless a specific exception applies. Do not let the service drift out of contract without reviewing renewal and switching options.

Do not calculate the contract by multiplying today's price by 24 A contract crossing one or two scheduled March increases costs more than that simple calculation suggests. The future prices shown before checkout are part of the comparison, not small print to ignore.

BT Full Fibre Broadband 2026: verdict

A dependable mainstream Full Fibre choice — with unusually tight current pricing between tiers

BT Full Fibre combines a mature national brand, the Openreach FTTP network, the Wi-Fi 6 Smart Hub 3 and a clearly stated minimum speed guarantee.

Full Fibre 300 is sufficient for most households. Full Fibre 500 is our balanced pick for a busy home, while Full Fibre 900 becomes tempting because its checked starting price was only £5 more than 300.

That price gap should not obscure the contract. The public offers run for 24 months and show £4 increases each March, so compare the total amount due rather than the first monthly figure.

The other important limitation is upload performance. BT's 110Mbps upload on the 900 tier is useful, but it is not symmetrical. Users moving enormous files upstream should compare address-specific alternatives.

Our verdict: BT Full Fibre is easy to recommend where the live price is competitive. Start with Full Fibre 300, move to 500 for a genuinely busy household, and choose 900 only when faster large downloads or extensive simultaneous use will provide real value.

BT Full Fibre broadband FAQs

What is BT Full Fibre?

BT Full Fibre is fibre-to-the-premises broadband. Fibre-optic cable reaches the property rather than using copper for the final section from a street cabinet.

How fast is BT Full Fibre?

BT currently advertises Full Fibre packages reaching up to 900Mbps. The packages and estimated speeds available depend on your address.

Which BT Full Fibre package is best?

Full Fibre 300 is enough for most homes. Full Fibre 500 is a balanced choice for several heavy users, while Full Fibre 900 suits power users and people who frequently download very large files.

Is BT Full Fibre 100 still available?

BT documentation still refers to Full Fibre 100, but it was not prominent in the main public new-customer grid when we checked. Lower or address-specific tiers may still appear, so check your postcode rather than assuming it has permanently disappeared.

What upload speed does BT Full Fibre provide?

The public deals checked advertised 49Mbps upload with Full Fibre 300, 73Mbps with 500 and 110Mbps with 900. Confirm your estimate during checkout.

Is BT Full Fibre symmetrical?

What router comes with BT Full Fibre?

Eligible new BT Full Fibre customers currently receive the Smart Hub 3, which supports Wi-Fi 6. The exact equipment supplied should be confirmed with the order.

Does BT guarantee Wi-Fi speed in every room?

The Stay Fast Guarantee applies to the connection reaching the Hub, not every wireless device. Complete Wi-Fi is BT's separate whole-home coverage product and has its own terms.

How does BT Complete Wi-Fi work?

Complete Wi-Fi combines the Hub with Wi-Fi discs. BT initially supplies one disc and can provide up to three in total through its support process. The published guarantee can provide a £100 bill credit if qualifying coverage cannot be delivered in the main dwelling.

Does BT Full Fibre need a phone line?

It does not use a traditional copper phone line for broadband. Voice service is optional through Digital Voice; without it, the broadband package does not provide a dial tone or call service.

How long is a BT Full Fibre contract?

The main public offers checked used a 24-month minimum term. Other offers can differ, so use the Contract Summary for the definitive term.

Does BT Full Fibre rise in price?

Under BT's current pricing structure, the monthly broadband price rises by £4 on 31 March each year. The public deal grid displayed the applicable future monthly prices before ordering.
